The Chinese-owned donkey abattoir with the name Rhong Chang that had resumed operations after 7 years, currently operating in Assela, Oromia, has earned nearly $200,000 from the export of donkey meat to East Asian market over the past 2 months. Since starting operations 5 months ago, the company has managed to export 168 tons of meat by slaughtering about 6,000 male aged donkeys, paying about Birr 2,000 per head.
