Ethiopia has completed the third round of filling the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Despite the negative influence of the two downstream countries and other forces, the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam has completed its third filing this year, and the water is now flowing above the reservoir, according to Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).

The dam’s height has also risen to over 600 meters.

In February 2022, the dam’s first turbine (375MW) started producing electricity. With 18.5 billion cubic meters in its reservoir and an 83 percent completion rate. Yesterday, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed turned on the dam’s second turbine, adding 375 MW to the national grid.

When measured from the bottom waterbed to the tip of the side wall concretes, GERD is the third tallest structure in the world, according to Esayas Mesele.
