The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has launched the “Decent Work for a Just Transition” program under the Invest for Jobs brand to improve economic conditions and create more and better job opportunities in selected African partner countries, including Ethiopia. The program is supported by German non-profit organization, Sequa, and focuses on increasing the competitiveness and productivity of Ethiopian SMEs, particularly women-owned businesses.
The program offers flexible and demand-oriented funding for machine and equipment, management consulting, technical training, and financial competence/business plan development. The program targets SMEs in three categories:
- Grant Facility “employability”: Supports training of unskilled workers in medium and large enterprises.
- Grant Facility “digital marketplace”: Refines business models and upgrades technological platforms for selected digital marketplaces and job platforms.
- Grant Facility “investment readiness”: Supports high-growth manufacturing enterprises and service delivery SMEs.
