Ethiopia has memorably registered $1.4 billion in revenue from the export of 300,000 metric tons of coffee during the last twelve months. According to data from the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA), China imported 5,879 metric tons of Ethiopian coffee worth $30.4 million during the fiscal year that ended on July 7. This represents a rise of 31% from the same month of the previous year.

This growth in revenue from coffee export in general, and to China in particular, has opened a massive door of opportunity for those ready to grab it. In an interview with Xinhua, the CEO of Kerchanshe Trading PLC, one of Ethiopia’s largest coffee producers and exporters, noted that sales to China have seen a 100 percent growth and are making the company double previous incomes every year. In line with this, he added that his company plans to expand its exports in the Chinese market. Others engaged in the same field are also expected to join the race.
