Last week, more than Birr 72 million birr worth of contraband items were seized by the Ethiopian Customs Commission. The commission seized more than Birr 68 million worth of inward contraband goods, and more than Birr 3 million worth of outward contraband items at various branches.

The Jijiga, Adama and Moyale branch offices are the main contenders in controlling the smuggling of goods worth over 16.6 million, 14.3 million and over 12.7 million birr respectively. The seized items include electronics, coffee, medicine, cosmetics, weapons, khat, drugs and various national currencies.
