On the 3rd of September 2022, Deborah Foundation inaugurated its up-to-date kindergarten that is inclusive of and caters to children with mental disabilities. Present at the ceremony were Shale-work Zewde, President of Ethiopia, various members of the organization, and other key stakeholders.
The Deborah Foundation, founded in 2019, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Ethiopian youth with mental disabilities through education, health, and policy advocacy.
The newly built kindergarten, located at Deborah Village in Legetafo Legedadi, was funded by Oromia Construction Corporation and additional individual local funders. The kindergarten is designed to be an inclusive school for over 300 students, with children suffering from Down Syndrome learning alongside children that are developing normally.
Deborah Foundation’s Founder and Board Chairman H.E Ato Abadula Gemeda, who also happens to be a Military General, Minister of Defense, president of the regional state of Oromia, and speaker of Ethiopian parliament, reportedly addressed the public and expressed the need for the community to fully support the educational needs of children with Downs Syndrome within the community.
