Statista, the market leader in the provision of reliable business data, has released its Global Business Cities report for 2022, ranking 200 of the most important business cities around the globe. Hong Kong ranked first globally, while Egypt took first place among African cities. 

The report is based on many relevant variables including economic, social, and business-related features that affect business decision-making. These include, among many, GDP, demographic factors, tourism attraction, infrastructure adequacy, and so on.

Of all the cities listed in the report, only 8 are from Africa. Three North African cities made the list, followed by two in South Africa, two in West Africa, and one in East Africa. The ranking global business cities index score goes as follows:

  • Cairo (Egypt): 31.84
  • Algiers (Algeria): 31.32
  • Johannesburg (South Africa): 30.33
  • Casablanca (Morocco: 28.84
  • Nairobi (Kenya): 24.01
  • Cape Town (South Africa): 17.14
  • Accra (Ghana): 16.48
  • Lagos (Nigeria): 10.70
