Ethiopia’s export sector generated 2.52 billion dollars in revenue over the last eight months, according to the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration.
Ethiopia’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Gebremeskel Chala, told the state-run Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) on Tuesday that the country achieved its initial target of 2.77 billion dollars in export revenue during the reported period, accounting for about 91 percent of the initial plan.
The agriculture sector accounted for the lion’s share of the reported 2.52 billion U.S. dollars in export revenue, with 1.75 billion U.S. dollars, followed by the mining sector with 389 million U.S. dollars and the industry sector with 320.9 million U.S. dollars. It was noted that the remaining economic sectors contributed to the rest of the export earnings.
According to the ministry, the revenue was up significantly from the same period last year, when it was 2.1 billion dollars.
