Within the next six months, Ethiopia’s digital economy will welcome a game-changing e-commerce startup as a result of a collaboration between Alibaba, China’s e-commerce behemoth, and Ermias Amelga, an Ethiopian business magnate with extensive experience in banking, technology, and real estate, among other fields.
Alibaba will be a part of the new company’s name, along with another local name representing Ethiopia, according to The Reporter.
With end-to-end online ordering, e-payment, and delivery systems, the new e-commerce platform, on which all items in Ethiopian shops will have a digital presence, is intended to propel Ethiopia onto a new digital economic trajectory.
In Ethiopia, there are roughly 30 e-commerce shops, and the Ministry of Revenue is already deploying technology that allows for electronic receipts and other e-services.
