Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (07 Jun 2022)-According to the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration, trade between Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has exceeded 2.5 billion dollars in the last five years.

Mussie Muddeye, the ministry’s Director-General of Trade Relations and Negotiation, made the announcement during a webinar titled “Creative Economy between the UAE and Ethiopia.” Ethiopian exports to the UAE totaled more than 650 million dollars between 2016 and 2020, while Ethiopian imports from the UAE were more than 1.8 billion dollars.

In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, Ethiopian exports totaled more than 3.28 billion dollars, with agricultural items accounting for about 70% of all exports. He expressed optimism that export profits would reach four billion dollars in the next two months.

Omar Khan, Director of International Offices, Dubai Chamber on his part said Dubai’s creative economy is the most attractive in the Middle East and the world for attracting foreign direct investment. Dubai, he claims, attracted 233 creative projects last year, outnumbering New York, Singapore, and Berlin.
