The Ethiopian Airlines Group (ET) has entered a strategic alliance with MailAmericas (MA), a leading private postal operator and distinguished member of the advisory committee for the Universal Postal Union, with the aim of establishing a strong presence in the cross-border e-commerce market within Africa and the Middle East. Utilizing Addis Ababa as a central hub, the partnership will leverage Ethiopian Airlines’ vast transportation network to facilitate the delivery of goods, while MailAmericas will contribute its extensive market knowledge and experience gained from operating in over 40 countries in Latin America and Africa.
The Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO expresses excitement about the partnership with MailAmericas to launch e-commerce logistics services across Africa and Latin America, highlighting the company’s position as the leading air cargo service provider in Africa and the joint success the two companies have had in serving over 20 countries in Africa and Latin America. He also emphasizes the potential for the partnership to improve customer service by utilizing MailAmericas’ expertise, bilateral agreements, and private networks.
The President of MailAmericas similarly expresses enthusiasm for the partnership, which will expand the company’s reach into Africa and allow for improved delivery times and package traceability for customers through the utilization of MailAfrica’s 25 years of experience in the region. Both parties express a desire to continue strengthening the partnership and developing new opportunities for mutual benefit.
In addition, the Ethiopian Airlines Group is undertaking the construction of a state-of-the-art e-commerce hub in Addis Ababa, with an annual capacity of 150,000 metric tons, in order to enhance its e-commerce logistics capabilities. The facility will be solely dedicated to e-commerce logistics operations and will feature advanced technologies such as an Automated Sortation System and Electronic Transport Vehicles (ETV) to ensure efficient handling of a wide range of shipments, from small parcels to larger boxes, skids, and built-up units (BUPs). The goal of this initiative is to improve the overall customer experience by streamlining the logistics process and ensuring timely delivery of goods.
