As part of the ongoing government services digitalization initiative, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Innovation and Technology recently announced that 222 government services are now available through online channels.
H.E Huria Ali, State Minister for Innovation and Technology, stated that efforts are being made to simplify government services and improve efficiency. Digital government services (also known as e-government) are defined as information and communication technology-based service delivery within government and between government and the public. Ethiopia’s government unveiled its digital transformation strategy last year, with the goal of harnessing digital technology to promote development and growth for all citizens.
Last week, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology announced the opening of 45 public electronic services. In addition, the ministry indicated that 400 government services will be made available online this year. So far, the government’s e-service platform has been visited by about 1.7 million people.
The ministry and the Civil Society Organizations Agency have also agreed to collaborate in order to ensure the services’ long-term functionality, reads the statement on social media.
