After the company’s oversight board ordered it to investigate how its platforms have been used to disseminate hate speech and unconfirmed rumours in Ethiopia, Facebook’s owner said it will “evaluate the possibility” of undertaking an independent human rights study connected to its activities there.
In response to the board’s recommendation, Meta stated that human rights diligence studies can be “very time consuming” and last up to a year. It went on to say that it will look into the possibility of such a move.
