Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (11 March 2023)

The British Council Arts Programme is teaming up with Creative Hub Ethiopia, Fashion Scout (UK), and Marigat Gold (Kenya) to unveil their latest project: Creative DNA: Ethiopia. This unique initiative aims to empower early-stage fashion and accessory enterprises in Ethiopia by providing them with business incubation support, boosting their business skills, enhancing their networks, and presenting them with lucrative market opportunities both in Ethiopia and across the pond in the UK.

The project aims to promote innovation, creativity, equality, diversity, and inclusion. Out of a large pool of applicants, the programme carefully selected only ten Ethiopian-based early-stage fashion and accessory enterprises to be part of the initiative, ensuring that each chosen enterprise has a fair opportunity to receive the necessary support and resources for their growth and success.

The selected designers include Yonael Marga, Afthoro, Afropian, Tibebu Collection, Dann Ltd, SARAH Clothing, Natanem Couture, RAHWA, TEYMNATION, and Zemenay.

The fashion enterprises will participate in digital coaching sessions, co-create online campaigns, and receive market opportunities, all designed to promote alternative and innovative approaches to the global fashion system. The programme aims to demonstrate that the fashion sector in Ethiopia is a professional choice for young people and a valuable contributor to the creative economy.
