According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Ethiopia earned over 499 million USD from horticultural exports in the first nine months of this fiscal year, a 15.3 percent increase over the same period last year.
Mekonnen Solomon, Director of Horticulture Investment and Export Support at the Ministry, revealed that the performance met 102.4 percent of the plan. Flowers account for the majority of export revenues, with 421 million USD in the reporting period, followed by vegetables and fruit, with 61.9 and 16 million USD each.
Ethiopia’s top flower export destinations are the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Norway, the United States, Japan, Italy, Canada, and Germany. Somalia, Djibouti, and Saudi Arabia are Ethiopia’s top vegetable export destinations, according to Mekonnen.
