According to reports, it has been announced that the residents of Addis Ababa who are waiting to renew their identification will be able to get services on Saturday and Sunday, November 12 and 13, 2022 from early morning to evening.
All who wish to get this service may visit their respective district vital registration and information offices on the specified days.
The decision, proclaimed by the Registration and Information Agency of Addis Ababa City, reverses (temporarily, at least) the suspension of ID renewals implemented by the Addis Ababa City Administration back in July 2022 as a precaution to national security threats and forged IDs, as well as to resolve the controversy surrounding the condominium housing draw.
However, many have reported difficulties with regard to having outdated identification cards, such as denial of service in banks, passport renewals, and so on.
