Ethiopia’s inflation rate ETCPIY=ECI increased in December, owing to price pressures associated with the holiday season, according to the statistics office on Monday.
Inflation accelerated to 35.1 percent year on year from 33 percent in November, according to the Central Statistics Agency, while monthly inflation was 1.4 percent, up from -0.6 percent the previous month.
“The month of December is a time for Christmas celebrations, and a price increase situation is usually expected,” it said.
The data release was postponed for more than two weeks. On Monday, the statistics office stated that the delay was due to technical issues.
