CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam, resigns from his position after more than a decade, learned Business Info Ethiopia from sources.

Mr. Tewolde was appointed as Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines in January 2011. He began his career at Ethiopian Airlines in 1985 as Transportation Agent and has held several senior leadership positions in different divisions in the Airline including; Ethiopian Cargo, Area Offices, and Sales & Marketing.

In his role as CEO, Mr. Tewolde has been a multi-award winner including ‘African CEO of the Year’, ‘Best African Business Leader’, ‘The Airline Strategy Award for Regional Leadership’, and ‘The Most Gender Focused CEO Award’.

Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam has been receiving medical care in the United States for the past six months, according to an airline statement posted on social media. Accordingly, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam requested the Board of Management of Ethiopian Airlines Group(the “Board”), for early retirement in order for him to focus his full attention to his medical treatment.
