Lake Wonchi has been named the best tourist village in the world by the United Nations Tourism Organization.
The swampy lake, which shows the sky as a photograph, the calm and the stagnant water, attracts the attention of the World Tourism Organization.
The volcanic lake is one of the three government-sponsored projects in ‘Dine for Ethiopia’ programme that raised 4.2 billion birr for the three projects – in Gorgora, Wonchi and Koysha. On March Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has launched the construction of Dine for Ethiopia’s Wenchi project alongside the volcanic lakes of Wenchi and Dendi in central Oromia.
