Safaricom has formally inquired about the potential of providing M-Pesa services in Ethiopia, as well as the requisite of an extra license price. Safaricom’s CEO has notified investors that he has written to Ethiopia’s telecommunications regulator seeking clarification on the conditions that Safaricom must meet in order to be cleared for mobile money services – and is now awaiting a response.
M-Pesa is optimistic and hopeful to thrive within Ethiopia’s large and unbanked population.
