Marathon Motors Engineering PLC, a pioneer in assembling the first historic electric vehicle in Ethiopia, today inaugurated the first electric vehicle charging station and 2nd model Hyundai KONA SUV electric vehicles (EV).
A single 15-minute charge of an EV car at the station will enable the vehicle to travel up to 200 miles (300 km), disclosed at the ceremony.

Minister Dagmawit Moges of Transport and Logistics wrote on Twitter after attending the inauguration ceremony “the ministry is working with relevant government institutions to establish a system which will enable the adoption of EVs including local manufacturing and assembly. Moreover, the ministry also working on incentive packages for EVs and associated infrastructure.”

The Marathon Motor Engineering, Plc. is a joint venture between South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company and Ethiopian all time great long-distance runner Haile Gebrselassie. The company is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and was founded in 2009. The company is the official general importer of Hyundai vehicles in Ethiopia.
