The Los Angeles Times awarded Meals by Genet the 2022 Gold Award. Jonathan Gold, a former L.A. Times culinary critic and editor, founded the Gold Award.

According to Gold, the award is given every year “with the idea of honoring culinary excellence and expanding the notion of what Southern California cooking might be.”

The award recognizes genius, intelligence, and environmental, cultural, and aesthetic sensibilities. Meals by Genet was chosen as the winner of our sixth annual contest by Food General Manager Laurie Ochoa, who is also the late Jonathan Gold’s wife

Meals by Genet is owned by Genet Agonafer, a former flight attendant and caterer.

Meals by Genet, located in Fairfax’s Little Ethiopia neighborhood, is one of Los Angeles’ most popular Ethiopian restaurants.
