Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (16 September 2022)
MIDROC Investment Group received numerous awards at this year’s Ethiopian Coffee Day, which was held on September 14 and 15, 2022, at the Sheraton Addis Hotel. The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority hosted the ceremony in collaboration with various stakeholders, with the theme “Our coffee is for our unity and prosperity.”
For the 2014 fiscal year, Ethiopia exported 300,000 tons of coffee for the first time in its history, earning 1.4 billion dollars. This program recognized key actors in the development and marketing of coffee, tea, and spices during that year. Among those who were acknowledged were the farmers who won the “Cup of Excellence” competition having sold one kilo of coffee for ETB 47,000.
Ministers, investors, and over 1,500 farmers, exporters, and suppliers of the three items were invited from across the country, including Federation President H.E. Sahle-work Zewde, who attended the event as a guest of honor.
During the awarding ceremony, MIDROC received a trophy, medal, and certificates for categories ranging from high-income coffee exporters, coffee preparation and storage, to top-grossing exporters of spices, and exporters of high-income tea products. Besides being a platinum-level sponsor of the event, MIDROC donated 50 manual and fuel-powered fake coffee brewing machines to 5 coffee-growing regions.
Mr. Jamal Ahmed, CEO of MIDROC, who received all the institute’s awards, expressed that he was very happy with the recognitions he received for his exemplary performance and explained that he will continue to do so.
