Nardos Bekele, the current United Nations (UN) Secretary General’s Representative in South Africa in her capacity as Resident Coordinator, will succeed Dr Ibrahim Mayaki, the long-serving CEO of AUDA-NEPAD.

Nardos Bekele has a background in development that predates her arrival in South Africa in May 2019. She previously worked as a Senior Director in the UN Secretary General’s Office and in various capacities leading the UN Development Programme in Kenya and Benin.

In a tweet, Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde congratulated her fellow Ethiopian national, saying she brings to the position a wealth of experience gained at the UN, adding that “women deliver.”
