Abdurehman Eid Tahir has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), the government’s investment arm.
The appointment of Mr. Tahir was announced by the company and it was stated that the new CEO took charge of the EIH effective from January 25, 2023.
This appointment comes shortly after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed appointed the former CEO of EIH, Mamo Mihretu, as governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia.
Abdurehman previously served as the deputy CEO of EIH and was a key member of the reform team in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. The company has welcomed the new CEO and expressed confidence that he will bring new energy and competency to his role.
The EIH, established by a parliamentary decree in December 2021, acts as a sovereign wealth fund for Ethiopia and is responsible for managing the portfolio of state-owned enterprises, which have assets valued at around $38 billion and annual revenues of $6.2 billion, representing 34% of Ethiopia’s GDP.
The EIH has a crucial role in the country’s economy and is tasked with improving the performance of state-owned enterprises and maximizing their value for the benefit of the Ethiopian people.
