Eight months ago, in collaboration with Ethio-telecom and SZM Engineering PLC, Nyala Insurance has launched the first of its kind insurance product in Ethiopia and has so far compensated 250 people for lost and broken phones amounted to 800k birr.
According to Addis Zebye report, so far 10,000 customers are registered for “Le-Mobile” insurance packages. Further indicated that Nyala Insurance is working on a short-term plan to increase the number of mobile phone insurance users to reach between 50 to 100k.
By effecting a premium payment of one birr to one birr and fifty cents based on the package selected per day, any smartphone user can enter a contract with Nyala Insurance just by sending an ‘ok’ text message via 813. Direct premium payment will be from Ethio-telecom airtime.
