The second telecom company in Ethiopia, Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC, met with the officials of Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) on today December 15. In the meeting, the leadership and members from the Global Partnership for Ethiopia consortium updates of progress and upcoming deliverables to the Authority’s officials.
“Ethiopia is an exciting market, and Vodacom is pleased to share best practices gleaned from other markets. Vodacom is also very focused on digital inclusion and financial services and hopes to enhance the offering in this market,” said Vodacom Group CTO Dejan Kastelic.
Further, Safaricom’s Chief External Affairs and Regulatory Officer, Matthew Harrison-Harvey reiterated the company commitment to rolling out the network as fast as possible, in line with the license obligations and directives.
Director-General Balcha Reba of ECA noted that the Ethiopian Communications Authority is helping Safaricom with equipment importation, facilitating stakeholder meetings, and related operational commencement activities. The Director assert the expectation of excellent services to all Ethiopians from the telecom.
Brook Taye, senior advisor at Ethiopia’s finance ministry, said the country expected Safaricom’s operation in the country to launch in March 2022 at the Africa Tech Festival 2021.
It is recalled that the telecom gets number ‘07’ for Safaricom Ethiopia Calls last week.
In related communication, the Safaricom-led consortium has appointed eight middle-level managers for its Ethiopia operation as it seeks to build a pool of staff ahead of commercial operations next year, Business Daily Kenya wrote.
