Safaricom Ethiopia has extended its large-scale customer pilot to Awoday and Gondar cities, according to the statement.

The latest rollout of customer pilots raises the number of cities testing Safaricom Ethiopia’s network to ten, following phased city-by-city customer pilots in Dire Dawa, Harar, Haramaya, Bahir Dar, Adama, Bishoftu, Mojo and Debre Birhan cities over the past four weeks.

In Awoday. a branded shop in Kebele 01 and in Gondar, four branded shops at Piassa, Arada. Azezo and College, are open to serve customers.

Customers in the three cities have the option of accessing customer care services from the call centre by dialling 700 and speaking to the customer experience agents in their preferred language (Amharic, Afaan Oromo. Af-Somali, Tigrigna. and English). “With the addition of Awoday and Gondar. We have now ten cities across Ethiopia piloting our network. The pilots in Awoday and Gondar signal the arrival of our National Launch in October 2022 as these are the last cities before the big event. We would like to appreciate the support from Government of Ethiopia; the Oromia Regional Government; the Amhara regional government; Mayors of Awoday and Gondar cities; the Ethiopian Communications Authority; network, IT and distribution partners; community leaders; and all stakeholders enabling us to offer our services; said Anwar Sousse, Chief Executive Officer, Safaricom Ethiopia.

The customer pilots in Awoday and Gondar cities are part of switching on our network and services in 25 cities by April 2023. working in partnership with government, businesses, local communities, and other stakeholders as part of our long-term commitment to transforming lives for a digital future in line with the Digital Ethiopia objectives.
