Ethiopian stars Teddy Afro, Kassmasse, Hewan Gebrewold, Addis Legesse, Betty G, and Lencho Gemechu represent Ethiopia in the 2022 AFRIMA nomination list.
AFRIMA (All Africa Music Awards) is an annual awards ceremony co-created by the International Committee AFRIMA and the African Union to recognize and reward musical works, talents, and creativity from across the African continent while promoting African cultural heritage.
According to the NotjustOk website, the Western African region received the most nominations with 134; the Eastern African region came in second with 69 nominations; the Southern African region is close behind with 68 nominations; Central Africa pulls its weight with 52 nominations; and the Northern African region is close behind with 49 nominations.
Tewodros Kassahun Germamo, professionally known as Teddy Afro, was nominated for Best Artist, Duo, or Group in African Reggae, Ragga, or Dancehall for his song titled “Naet”.
Leencoo Gammachuu was nominated in the Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Traditional for his unique Oromo music song “Saglii”.
Betty G was nominated for Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa and Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Traditional categories for her beautiful song “Addis Semay”.
Hewan Gebrewold of Ethiopia was nominated in the Breakout Artist of the Year and Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa categories for her song “Shemuna”.
Addis Legesse has been nominated for his best astonishing song, “Enja”, in the categories of Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa and Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Jazz.
Kassmasse was nominated for his hit song “Sewasew” in the Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, Best Male Artist in Africa Inspirational Music, and Best Male Artist in Africa Inspirational Music categories.
Voting starts Sunday 25, 2022.
