Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (23 July 2022)

BGI Ethiopia, a large-scale brewery and beverage company wing of the group Castle, has received the Global Monde Selection’s Gold Quality Award for two of its products: St. George Beer and Sen’q Malt. The former drink is the most popular and oldest beer in Ethiopia, founded in 1922 and named after the patron saint of the same name, while the latter is the firm’s first ever non-alcoholic malt-based refreshment.

According to its official cite, Monde Selection has been evaluating the quality of consumer products from all over the world since 1961. A panel of independent experts take the time to analyze each product individually on a set of up to 25 parameters that cover sensory, scientific and legal aspects of importance to consumers. St. George and Sin’q became the only Ethiopia products to win the 2022 round of assessment in the Beers, Waters and Soft-Drinks category. In a tweet released two days ago, BGI Ethiopia attributed the reward to its commitment to producing quality beverages.

BGI has three brewery factories around Ethiopia including Addis Ababa, Kombolcha and Hawassa and has inaugurated a winery around Zeway.
