The platform has been integrated with 13 banks to transfer money from bank to telebirr and with 11 banks to transfer money from telebirr to bank, demonstrating its superiority as a digital payment option, and telebirr has transacted 25 billion Birr worth of electronic money.
Huawei spent five months developing Telebirr, an end-to-end mobile money service for Ethio Telecom that went live on May 11, 2021, with features such as sending and receiving money, purchasing mobile airtime, paying Ethio Telecom bills or purchasing tickets, depositing and withdrawing cash, facilitating remittance, conducting bulk payment (e.g., employee salary), and donation services.

Annual Income Tax: This tax payment system has been in place since July 8, 2022, and over 300,000 taxpayers have been identified through this digital payment platform to settle their tax payments via telebirr. So far, 679 taxpayers have settled their annual income tax for the fiscal year, with approximately 4 million birr collected via telebirr. Addis Ababa City Administration Revenues Bureau category C taxpayers can settle their annual income tax at any time and from any location by using the telebirr mobile App or USSD (*127#).
Digital Lottery: This month, National Lottery Administration lottery ticket buyers could purchase the ADMAS lottery by dialing telebirr USSD *127#, as well as National Lottery Administration’s 605 SMS service by sending A or any letter.
Transport Service Fares: Customers can settle transport service fares via telebirr through its partnerships with Hybrid Designs PLC.
Telegebeya Online Sales Channel: telegebeya online sales channel is a new and alternative sales platform that enables customers to purchase Ethio telecom’s products easily from their location, combined with the company’s existing 509 point of sales and 185 franchise shops, as well as over 40,000 Ride transport serving drivers who will oversee delivering and selling Ethio Telecom’s products and services.
Organization Payment Systems: Telebirr enables Ethiopian Airlines customers to purchase domestic flight tickets, as well as Ethiopian electric utility and water and sewerage service providers to collect telebirr-based monthly service bill payments and traffic fine payments. Furthermore, the Immigration and Citizenship Service will settle passport service payments via telebirr.
