Zeepay Ghana has introduced its partnership with Telebirr, a mobile money service developed by Huawei that is owned and was launched by Ethio telecom on 11 May 2021.
Zeepay is the fastest growing fintech focusing on digital rails to connect digital assets such as mobile money Wallets, Cards, ATMs, Bank Account and Digital Tokens to International Money
According to Ethiotelecom 2014 EFY (2021/22) first half business performance summary report, “telebirr” has reached over 13 million subscribers (79% active rate) with a total transaction value of ETB 5.1 Billion.
Starting from January 1, 2022, Zeepay expects to assist the growing variety of abroad Ethiopian employees and Immigrants who beforehand had issue discovering a reliable manner of sending funds to their households again house in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia has a huge population of over 2 million Ethiopians in the diaspora who invariably have a need to send money back home. “This collaboration will afford Ethiopian diasporans the opportunity to cater for friends and family back home, and to support their communities as well,” said the CEO of Ethiotelecom, Frehiwot Tamiru.
Zeepay Managing Director Andrew Takyi-Appiah said: “We are delighted that the new partnership will further open up Africa to digital and cross-border payments and give our partners access to over 150 million consumers”.

Telebirr platform delivers a cashless transaction with current capacity of processing up to 100 transactions per second (TPS) and can be scaled up to 1000 TPS in the future according to Huawei. The service is accessible via SMS, USSD, and smartphone applications and works in five languages.
