Geda Special Economic Zone is expected to create jobs for more than 7 million people, job-creation for the youth being its ultimate goal. It will be constructed in 23,656 hectares land in Mojo, Oromia. It plans to integrate economic facilities ranging from market, industry, logistic services to recreation. This project is to pave the way to facilitated trade in not just Ethiopia but also the horn. The modern cities are to be constructed in phases, and the first phase is to be concluded in 5-10 years, while the last in 30-40 years.
Zhao Zhiyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, along with higher Ethiopian officials, has just recently visited the special economic zone.
